Overview
In this session, we plan to invite speakers, in their capacity as instructors of kendo and judo, to address the following questions: “What do we want students to learn through budo?” “What do we want them to learn through competition?” “What kinds of instructional approaches and challenges arise depending on the learners?” “What does internationalization and sportification mean for budo?” and “What does strength mean in budo?”

This session is planned as a collaboration with the Kyushu Branch of the Japanese Academy of Budo. By including not only members of the Kyushu Society of Physical Education and Sport Science but also members of the Japanese Academy of Budo’s Kyushu Branch, we expect meaningful discussions to develop around instructional innovations and challenges in budo education. Together with participants engaged in budo and sports instruction, we also aim to deepen discussions on learner-oriented teaching, as well as the internationalization and sportification of budo.
